Hosta Sieboldiana Elegans - Related Plants

I have a list of Hosta Sieboldiana Elegans descendents but wanted to give a brief description of each. We know that Hosta Elegans is a rather large grey/blue Hosta plant and it has many named cultivars that have come from it but a description of each cultivar can come in handy should someone what to buy a Hosta Sieboldiana of a particular variety.


Abiqua Parasol
Hosta Abiqua Parasol is a very large blue green Hosta. It leans more green than blue. It has large strongly veined leaves which are heart shaped. The leaves themselves are also large 14 inches long by 9 inches wide. A nice attractive solid colored Hosta plant. The plant is 26 inches high by 50 inches wide. It is not sun tolerant or slug resistant.

Aurora Borealis
Hosta Aurora Borealis is a nice blue green variegated Hosta. The center of the leaf is blue green and the wide margins are yellow. It is 24 inches high by 50 inches wide. The heavily textured leaves are 13 inches long by 11 inches wide. It is somewhat sun tolerant but not completely so test it in various sun amounts until you find the amount that works best in your garden. It is also slug resistant.

Barbara Ann
Hosta Barbara Ann is a green and white variegated Hosta. The main leaf color is green with narrow white margins. This is a large hosta plant which does not like sun but is slug resistant. The textured leaves are 9 inches long by 7 inches wide.

Bix Blues
Hosta Bix Blues is a very blue hosta plant. Generally in the world of plants blue is more of a grey but sometimes you get lucky and find something that looks more like “real blue”. This large Hosta is 22 inches high by 35 inches wide. The leaves are not as textured as some other Sieboldiana plants but the veins stand out. This is a very attractive plant which has viable seed.

Blue Belle
Hosta Blue Belle is a blue green Hosta well it’s barely blue but it counts. This medium sized Hosta grows to 19 inches tall by 36 inches wide. The leaves are slightly cupped and ovate. The size of this plants leaves are 7 inches long by 6 inches wide. This plant is not sun tolerant but is slug resistant.

Blue Blush
Hosta Blue Blush is a small Hosta plant with blue green leaves. It is 7 inches high by 15 inches wide. It is a cute medium blue Hosta plant. The powdery blue leaves have very little texture and are lance shaped. They are 7 inches long by 3 inches wide.
